THE CRYSTAL TEA PARTY |
This is just one of his strange mayhemic moods, which occured more and more often approaching the end. It was in the winter of 1999, when Taciturne called me talking about destroying all of his records. He was tired of all this plastic. He organised a ritual autodafe assisted by Soldat Lamasse. The thing was to play every single record one last time before destroying it using a hammer and a burin. Afterwards he said that it was ridiculous to listen to them before destruction. During days there were vinyl debris everywhere of about 6000 records, tapes and CDs... rarities nor limited bootlegs did not escape! Some of you might now ask why did he do that. Well, he did not talk a lot about it. Each time he was questionned for the reasons he answered : "I allready wasted too much time destroying them, now I won't waste more time talking about it!". End of conversation. My opinion is that he did not want to give his whole time and money to artists he did not know personally (he actually did not destroy the records of his favorite bands like Perplex Barquettes, Extrakwaliteit, Anna, Hardclan and some others including of course his own productions). He may have also realized how vulgar all that music was. But some day he told me in an unmotivated fashion : "I just needed some space, god damn it!". He lived by the law of German New Wave goddess,Johanna Liebhart (with whom he actually had an affair, though she was twice his age) who once said : "Verbrenne was Du liebst, liebe was Du verbrennst." which means something like "Burn what you love, love what you've burned.". I discovered it to be some kind of antique Roman saying, but I guess this is kind of a pastime at Advertance to appropriate yourself of old crap, as Egon Oppl once said : "Nichts ist neu, alles ist geklaut." ("Nothing is new, everything is stolen.") or the everlasting punky leitmotiv of Johanna : "DAMALS WAR ALLES BESSER" ("Once everything was better"). Some time after the CTP he volunteered to destroy huge record collections of people he met. He said to me : "It just hurts until the first few records, then it becomes kind of ecstatic. You get all over frenetic to destroy more, more, more. I even thought about destroying the few remaining records, even to break glasses, plates, the TV, the HiFi..." and finally he destroyed himself. To gain his freedom he had to destroy the most disturbing material handicap : his own body. A remixed recording of the Crystal Tae Party is downloadable on Hardclan's webpage at the Camp Records. |
